Okay, so I’m a big music fan and in my spare time I like to catch up on the latest newest tracks via blogs like Pitchfork, Stereolab, and others. In my search, I found a blog startup called Groovemine. They were running a particularly brilliant contest at the time: post a comment to one of their recent blogs, and win a t-shirt. [Hint: I also like t-shirts too].

I posted a comment and I won! Imagine my surprise when less than a week later, I opened the package and found a personalized note from Groovemine, thanking me for my support of their website. I’ve won a few contests in my time, but never had I received an actual handwritten note.

It turns out a lot of new companies [large and small] are using this simple, and arguably “old school” gesture to create a more direct bond with their visitors and to inspire customer loyalty.
